Broadcasting from the centre of the Universe 5-11 May

Hey friends, this is our last week in the current format- listen out on Te Pae this week for the announcement of a whole new way of community broadcasting! Woo.

We also have a new show this week: welcoming Sam Buchanan’s Reptile Radio at 10pm. This week we continue Sunday-Saturday nights 5pm-11pm on your radios and streaming for free around the world on your computers at paekakariki.org.nz. We start live on Sunday night 5 May.

5pm:        Parental Misguidance

Join Ed and Luca, father and son, for an hour of pop, punk and polka. Helping to bridge the generation gap through song – Rihanna to the Ramones.

6pm: Te Pae/ The Perch

This week with Mark Amery, Stefan Wolf and friends play live in the studio, and our neighbour of the week is a Dutch ambassador, ‘Cloggy artist’, and cyclist Jan Weststarte (www.cloggyart.com) . Before 7pm Squawk of the week is from Constable John Stewart giving us an update on suspicious activity around these parts, and 7pm with Te Pae producer Melanie Phipps is Community Notices. After that Issue of the week after 7pm is particualrly for parents and young people: Extra Curricular Activities – Are We Getting the Balance Right?  We are joined by  Erica Julian, Julia Truscott and Will Northcott. Gabe Bishop Evans is in with film reviews, and in our 7.45pm spoken word slot we have poet Dinah Hawken.

8-9pm:            M.A.W.P.

Stefan and MC MC present M.A.W.P. , an irreverent look at pop and rock, new and old.  Episode 3: The Meads of May. Competition hotline! Text 022-0814091.

9-10pm: The Space Doctor
Space, stargazing, astronomical chat and lots of space music, ranging from Holst to Soundgarden, some of which will “evoke a feeling of contemplative spaciousness.” With DJ Mick.

Cutting edge nostalgia from yesterday, today and tomorrow, from around the world, and from around the block. With Sam Buchanan.

Joyful couplings on your perch: week 11, April 28 – May 4

Paekakariki 88.2FM brings you some joyful couplings and a brand new show at 10pm (Calvinball -the show with no rules) . Sunday-Saturday nights 5pm-11pm on your radios and streaming for free around the world on your computers at paekakariki.org.nz. We start live on Sunday night April 28.

5pm: Paekakariki Pop   
Sophie and her friends Pippa and Leila have put together a show of their favorite songs. They will be playing songs current from the pop charts  and more.

6pm: Te Pae/ The Perch

This week with Kaia Hawkins a bit of a parent/child theme, Rori Evans plays folk live in the studio, and our neighbour of the week is dad Steve Evans,of Beltona Resonators. From a workshop in Tangahoe Street he makes hand-made lightweight aluminium resonator mandolins, guitars and ukuleles worldwide.  Meet the man who worked with Mark Knopfler and sold a guitar to Eric Clapton (which he later sold at a charity auction for 40,000 pounds). Squawk of the week is about Taekwondo with Master Barry (Kaia’s dad). Janet Holborrow provides a Community Board update, and there’s sports report with Clinton.  Issue of the week is Marriage Equality: What does the success of the marriage amendment bill mean to people in Paekakariki? We are joined by  Jenny Rowan and Jools Joslin, Liz Kennedy and Prue Hyman. And in our spoken word slot writer Kelly Joseph.

8pm: Viva la French Paekakariki

Shona and Sebastian present in English and French, stories and an eclectic mix of old and new music from all over the world with an emphasis on French culture and ancient music   

9pm: The Weather Girls

DJ Fred and DJ Lavender focus on female artists (although not exclusively), interspersed `with weather related topics.

10pm: Calvinball -the show with no rules

Laurence and Hugo play a wide variety of music ranging from metal to electronic and rap, and discuss weird and wonderful topics.

Anzac – Week 10 21-27 April

How are we all? This week korero, indie, country, beats and bangers, and on Te Pae, Francis Mills, Lisa Malones, Clinton and Pete, Paekakariki soccer, Anzac Day through three different views and letters from Gallipoli to local families read by John Porter. All from a sleepout in Paekakariki – streaming worldwide on the net at paekakariki.org.nz and in Paekakariki on your radios 88.2FM, week ten of our pilot sees us again live on Sunday, and repeating the show Monday to Saturday.

5pm     Collective Korero Collecting the korero in Paekakariki, with host Kaia Hawkins. Your neighbours’ lives and record collections.

6-8pm      Te Pae (The Perch) Your weekly news, views, performances and interviews of Paekakariki with host Mark Amery, producer Melanie Phipps and reporter Ester Bullen.

8pm    The Wildwood Hour Travels through the vast landscape of country and folk music, with Helen Keivom.

9pm     Anything Could Happen A sampling of indie rock / pop from the late ‘70s to the present, with a hearty dose of New Zealand content, with Jim Ebenhoh

10pm  Beats and Bangers Servin up some fresh beats and sizzling bangers. Keepin it oldschool, keepin it greasy, no mash, no cheesey!!! With Jack Cromie.

This Week on Te Pae

This week on Te Pae (The Perch), your community radio show we welcome a live performance from Francis Mills just after 6pm, followed by an interview with Lisa Malones, who after five years as a beloved teacher at Paekakariki School is putting on gumboots to run a school in the Wairarapa.

Clinton gives the sports round up and Pete the last fishing report of the season. Community Notices run at 7pm followed by Joelle Mills  discussing the soccer season from the Paekakariki Sports Club.

This week’s Issue after 7pm is Anzac Day, with 83 year old Parade resident Colleen Kelly, who had six uncles at Gallipoli, 11 year old Levon Stone who will be part of this week’s Anzac Day memorial procession, and Vietnam Vet and Paekakariki Gas Station Coffee Cart owner Ian Johnston

At about  quarter to 8 we hear the letters of Private William Lynch from Gallipoli, which refer to local families, read by John Porter.

From Aotearoa to Nigeria – April 14-20 Paekakariki 88.2FM

Paekakariki 88.2FM is back on air this Sunday-Saturday (and streaming for free ion your computers from www.paekakariki.org.nz) after technical issues saw us our repeat broadcasts not on over the last week. This marks the beginning of month three in our pilot period, seeing the return of our stellar line-up of foundation presenters:

5pm   Indiginz sessions: with Himiona Grace, music by contemporary Maori, Pacific and Aotearoa based bands and artists, with a few tracks by indigenous and ethnic groups from around the globe.

6-8pm    Te Pae/ The Perch FM: A two hour show of community news, notices, interviews, performances and music for every taste. See the full programme below.

8-9pm  Garage Sale Funk: Music and stories from Haumia Street’s funkiest DJ and garage sale goer, Paul Howard.

9-10pm Living the Highlife From Lagos to Addis Ababa and back, with Tim Jaray. This monthL Nigeria!

10-11pm Classical Futures: Anna-Marie O’Brien takes you on a journey through modern classical music, local and beyond.

This Week on Te Pae

This week on Te Pae (The Perch), your community radio show we welcome a live performance from the band Land of Plenty just after 6pm, followed by an interview with Lisa Malones, who after five years as a beloved teacher at Paekakariki School is putting on gumboots to run a school in the Wairarapa.

Gabe Bishop-Evans will review movies at Finns ‘A Lady in Paris’ (Estonian),Kiwi film: ‘The Fall Guy’ and maybe a few others. Community Notices run at 7pm followed by Rob Stone discussing Paekakariki Cubs and Scouts and upcoming activities for the whole village.

How is Tourism in Paekakariki? In this week’s Issue of the Week after 7pm, Our Temporary Neighbours: Tourism in Paekakariki we have on Paekakariki Holiday Park’s Marilyn Heazelwood, Paekakariki Beachfront B&B owners’ Don Polly and Allie Webber and Hill Top Hideaway’s Peter Mounsey & Denise Duke. 

Elsewhere at about  quarter to 8 Sarah Bainbridge reads a story of hers from Kapiti anthology “Shortz”, a bedtime story for 8 to 11 year olds

You will have to try and live without us for the rest of this week! Due to a technical hitch we have our first recording gap of this pilot period for 88.2FM. Which is to say that the processing of Sunday night’s live broadcast 7 April was not completed and we aren’t able to share repeat broadcasts with you this Monday to Saturday. Sob. Apologies.

On Community Show ‘Te Pae’ this week live performances from Crimson Club and we’ll hear from local Rarotongan poet Rob Hack before he heads off to Niue.  Neighbour and MasterChef NZ eliminee Corinna Jewanski talks about her love of food and shares her Grandmother’s treasured Chicken Soup recipe.   We also explore whether Paekakariki is the centre of the universe for teens, with a look at issues facing youth in the village.  Plus Community Notices, C-Dog’s sports results and a sneek preview of what we can enjoy at Te Ra’s Harvest Fair

No hold barred discussion on planning changes for properties facing coastal erosion and, live from the dairy, Hemi Morar (aka Horace’s wife) speaks. Streaming worldwide on the net at paekakariki.org.nz and in Paekakariki on your radios 88.2FM, week six of our pilot sees us again live on Sunday, and repeating the show Monday to Saturday, with some favourite monthly Paekakariki specialist shows and our weekly community show Te Pae.

We celebrate our first month on air (applause) which means in this pilot period the chance for you to hear our beloved week one hosts return sharper, keener and funkier. But wait, there’s more! We also throw into the works a brand new show from our favourite Black Seed Tim Jaray.

Neighbour of the week is Tom Taptiklis, and Clinton’s back with the Paekakariki sports round-up. Community Notices are at 7pm for all your local information with our producer Melanie Phipps. Garage Sale Funkman Paul Howard provides the Sqawk of the Week on behalf of the Bowls Club and at the end of the show we have spoken word from Apirana Taylor. Between 7 and 8 our issue of the week is Education, looking at homeschooling with Maggie Bishop, a local parent homeschooling her teenager, vis a vis the state system with Assistant Principal at Kapiti College Ragne Maxwell. Thanks for listening and bearing with our errors and technical glitches. It’s a pilot period for us as we all get things right. But what a pile of shows last week! Our pilot period sees us run a monthly programme for three months, probably in the current timeframe 5pm-11pm, so this marks the end of month one and the last batch of new shows (well we’re sure to sneak a few new surprises in), which means next week March 24 you can look forward to the return of some of your fave shows thus far.
