Te Pae Centennial Oral History Special at St Peters

This week on Paekakariki’s community radio show Te Pae we have something very special celebrating Paekakariki’s history – broadcasting 12noon and 6pm everyday on 88.2Fm and streaming from www.paekakariki.fm. We recorded live at St Peter’s Hall’s centennial celebrations interviewing:

  • Karl Farrell of Ngati Haumia,
  • Margaret Griffiths (who has been an enormous part of the hall, church and community),
  • Gloria Hakkens (who came here in the 1950s and is a wealth of family, hall and local cinematic memories – her father ran the St Peter’s Hall movie theatre),
  • John Porter (long term resident with memories of growing up in Paekakariki in the 1940s),
  • Joan Hilder (who grew up from 1960  in a railway house in what is now Ames Street reserve and his whose father was the projectionist)
