Longlining on Te Pae 22-28 February

Kia ora Paekakarikeans and friends of Paekakariki the world over. On this week’s Te Pae (12-2pm and 6-8pm (except Friday-Saturday) daily) we look at Longline Fishing. In recent times, there have been incidents of people setting longlines too close to each other, at popular beach access points where people swim and even a longline trailing through the surf zone next to the flags. We chat with Pete McLaughlin and Graeme Thompson about the pros and cons and good etiquette. Our neighbour of the week is Gina Burge in for a yarn about everything from early childhood education,  to raising a whanau in Paekakariki,  and  Linda Hansen reads from her recently published children’s book, ‘An Unexpected Hero’. Winner of the Jack Lasenby Children’s writing award 2012. The book celebrates the memory of WW1 conscientious objector Archie Baxter, who has a grandchild and great grandchildren here in the village. Thanks to our great sponsor the Beach Road Deli. You can catch us on 88.2FM or streaming from paekakariki.org.nz
