The Civil Defence Te Pae – 20/11/2016

Well, what a week it’s been – earthquakes, floods and Waikanae even managed to squeeze in a tornado as well. As forces of nature have dominated our week, tonight on Te Pae we’ve assembled a panel of experts for an earthquake and Civil Defence special. With us will be Janet Holborow, Deputy Mayor of Kapiti; Philip Edwards, Chair of the Paekakariki Community Board; Dr Joshu Mountjoy, Marine Geologist with NIWA; and Flo McNeill, who has been coordinating the community responses to all this upheaval. We’ll be discussing the science behind the earthquake, what we can expect for the future, and what we in Paekakariki can do to be as prepared as possible. And as always we’ll have the community notices to keep you up to date with all the interesting events occurring in our neighbourhood. Your hosts are Amy Delahunty and Prue Hyman and you can listen to Te Pae at 12pm and 6pm daily on 88.2FM or streaming www.paekakariki.fm.
Below is a video from 2014 by Tina McIvor for the KCDC Greener Neighbourhoods initiative – check out how five Paekakariki households prepared for a Civil Defence emergency.
