Te Pae Paekakariki this Easter and Anzac weekends

Happy Easter and Easter School hols. This week’s Te Pae runs over a fortnight (no new show next Sunday) and is dedicated to the people and their whanau of Paekakariki who gave of themselves in different ways during war. Our live music guest is Sean O’Leary (Sugarbug music here), we speak with Anthony Dreaver from Nga Wakahuia O Paekakariki about items in the museum from WW2 and the US Marines stationed in Paekakariki, hear letters from William Lynch to his whanau during WW1 read by John Porter, speak with Murray Hill a veteran of two wars, and have a reading from Archibald Baxter’s powerful account We Shall Not Cease – Baxter bravely refused to serve during World War I on the grounds that “all war is wrong, futile, and destructive alike to victor and vanquished.” With the school holidays on, our special community notices are just for children. Your host is Kaia Hawkins.

Remember you can find heaps of Paekakariki content online at www.paekakariki.org.nz where we also stream the radio on the internet. We also love feedback and ideas so email us on [email protected] or leave comments on Facebook. Thanks to sponsor Beach Road Deli, and  the team producer Rebecca Thomson, Mark Coote, Sylvia Bagnall, Louise Thornley, Aliki Weststrate, Harriet Bright, Phoebe Taptiklis and others.
