Taking you back to 1943

Marine-Camp-during-ww 2-1942 [1]-1

This week on Te Pae, Sunday 26 May to Saturday 1 June, 12-2pm and 6-8pm daily, we take you back to 1943 with a US Marines special as the village looks back to the time 71 years ago when this little place was surrounded by 20,000 Americans. We feature the music of the time, kicking off with a live set from Rodger Fox, and to discuss the enduring impact, in the studio are John Porter, Joan Ellis and Allie Webber. We play recordings of local residents memories of the time, including that of our late kuia Jean Andrews in our 7.40pm spoken word slot. Neighbour of the week is Aperahama ‘Flag man’ Keith Johnston, Squawk of the week is the Paekakariki Rail and Heritage Museum with Anthony  Dreaver and Gabe Bishop Evans is in with some movie reviews from Finns.  Community Notices as always are at 7pm.
